Japanese 10 is a course in Japanese language and culture for absolute beginners! Students are introduced to three different Japanese alphabets. The cultural component includes topics such as the Japanese individual, family, food, housing, clothing, transportation, shopping, and student's interests such as Japanese animation, origami, calligraphy, and Japanese traditional sports.

This course continues to emphasize reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The more complex forms of Japanese script are introduced, and the Japanese society of today is studied in detail. Topics such as land and people, customs, arts and literature, work, and living in Japan are explored.
Prerequisite: 50% in Japanese 10
Japanese 30

“Kanji”, the most complex alphabet, is examined in more detail in this course. Students will develop more oral and written production language skills. National treasures, economics and politics, science and technology, global relationships, and Japanese values will be the main cultural aspects studied.
Prerequisite: 65% in Japanese 20
