Canada in the 20th century is examined through the study of Canadian sovereignty, regionalism and identity. The organization and structure of the Canadian government and the rights and responsibilities of the citizens of Canada are studied.
Prerequisite: 65% in Grade 9 Social Studies or 70% in Social 13; good reading and writing skills are essential
Social Studies 20
(5 credits)
The development and interaction of nations through a study of the major evolutionary and revolutionary changes that have influenced the modern world are examined. Global issues such as quality of life and the future of mankind are also studied. Students will also participate in a Model UN activity.

Social Studies 30
(5 credits)
Political and economic systems are examined through the study of democracy, capitalism, and planned and mixed economies. Cooperation and conflict among states, and humankind’s attempts at achieving and maintaining world peace during the 20th century are studied. Students must write a provincial diploma examination.
