INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM

 

The International Baccalaureate Program is a comprehensive, internationally based Programme of studies attractive to the student who is motivated and intent on pursuing university studies. This Programme offers challenges and experiences beyond the regular High School Diploma Program and is designed to provide students with a balanced education, including all the major disciplines: Languages (English plus French or Japanese), Experimental Sciences (Biology and Chemistry), Social Sciences and Mathematics, along with individual electives.

 

The studen who stafisfies the demands of study within the IB Programme will demonstrate a strong commitment to learning, both in terms of the mastery of subject content and in the development of the skills and discipline necessary for success in a competitive world. Students will benefit from study in the company of other interested and motivated students; the decelopment of time and task management skills; local, national and international emphasis in curricular areas; the challenge of international competition; and university recognition.

 

The International Baccalaureate Programme is open to students seeking a more challenging educational experience with an international cross-curricular focus and high standards for participation and achievement. Students considering the IB Programme should have a strong academic stading in Junior High core subjects and be committed to high achievement and prticipation in course work and extracurricular activities. The International Baccalaureate curriculum and the Alberta curriculum will be interwoven throughout the courses taken from Grades 10 to 12. Students who satisfy the requirements for International Baccalaureate Diploma or Certification, as well as completing the requirements for the Alberta High School Diploma.

 

Students are encouraged to consider the Full International Baccalaureate Programme, and study as a Diploma candidate, or may enter various courses and study as a Certificate candidate in a partial IB Programme.

 

Students enter the International Baccalaureate Programme as Grade 10 Honours (pre-IB) students. Details of the International Baccalaureate Programme, and descriptions of International Baccalaureate courses, can be found in the Registation Guide and on the
