Dear parents/guardians:

Like most school boards across the
province, St. Albert Public Schools has a significant transportation deficit.
Funding for transportation has not kept pace with costs, and the implementation
of Bill 1 a few years ago restricted the way we could charge bus pass fees. In
addition, we provide a higher level of service than is mandated by Alberta
Education. Our only option to cover this deficit is to pull money intended for
the classroom. We know that this is not sustainable, and allowing this deficit
to continue to grow is not responsible, so we are gathering input on what our
families value when it comes to transportation services. This will help guide
us in the next step, which is to review our transportation options.

It is important that we hear from our
school community before we make any decisions regarding transportation. An
invitation to participate in a Thoughtexchange online consultation process is
attached below. Once we have received some direction on the values that matter
to our community, we will develop some options that we will present later this
fall to our families, with implementation of any changes planned for the
2020-2021 school year.

Whether you have children riding the bus or not, we ask that you please take a few minutes and participate in this consultation process. Thank you.
