COMMUNITY AWARDS - Requiring Application

Growing up deeply rooted in the St. Albert community, Erin James was known by her classmates and teachers at Bellerose Composite High School for her genuine, thoughtful nature. A proud Bulldog, Erin graduated from Bellerose’s International Baccalaureate program in 2000.

The Erin James Memorial Scholarship will be presented annually to a grade 12 Bellerose student. The recipient is not required to have the highest academic average but must be committed to their academics, contribute to the Bellerose Community and exhibit compassion, kindness and generosity towards others.

Conner was very dedicated and committed to his training regimen. He always wanted to be faster, stronger and ready to play. Conner’s desire to be the best player he could be was very evident to others around him.

A true leader, Conner always led by example and was an inspiration to his team-mates. The Conner Lukan Memorial “Tighten Your Skates” Scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving applicant who is planning to pursue a career as an Athletic Therapist, Physiotherapist, or a related-career that helps heal the body.

Jaxon carried with him a strong sense of competition and drive to be better each and every time he practiced or played. Jaxon never gave up on his dream to play NCAA Division One hockey because of his “Love of the Game.”

The Jaxon Joseph “For the Love of the Game” Memorial Scholarship is focused on those players who deeply love the game of hockey, who love and demonstrate the teamwork that goes along with the sport, and to those who additionally support the communities that support the player.

Logan Hunter was a strong character team player who was destined in life to serve others. Logan enjoyed helping young people whether as a volunteer or a coach. Logan had aspirations to be a teacher.

The Logan Hunter Youth Leadership Scholarship will be awarded annually to a player who demonstrates the desire and commitment to becoming a great athlete and a positive leader in the community.

Patricia Trudeau was a fixture among painters' groups and writers' circles. Her life was even more remarkable for what she gave up to live her life as creatively as she wanted.

The Patricia Trudeau Scholarship Award is awarded to a student who is entering a Post Secondary program in the following area: Fine Arts, Musical Theatre or Design Studies.

Stephen Wack always had a kind word or helping hand for others; he did what he could to contribute to the various communities he lived in as he progressed through his hockey career. The Stephen Wack Memorial Scholarship will be given to the individual who has the confidence to follow his or her heart. 

This scholarship is intended to facilitate the recipient’s personal growth and/or development in any area of their choosing.

Shea-Lynn McGaw, a proud Bellerose Bulldog, tragically lost her life in a motor vehicle accident in 2021. The Shea-Lynn McGaw “Be Strong, Never Give Up” scholarship will be presented annually to a volleyball player who demonstrates a “never give up” mindset. Someone who brings a positive energy to the court and perseveres even in the face of challenges. The recipient may not be the most skilled athlete on the team but personifies this spirit, both on and off the court.

Applicants may apply personally or be nominated. The scholarship must be used toward the cost of post-secondary tuition, or other associated costs, within two years of high school graduation.

ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS - Requiring Application

This bursary is presented to a graduating student, enrolled in a post-secondary program, who has demonstrated excellence in scholastic effort. Students may apply for this award.

The bursary is presented annually to a Grade 12 graduating student who has achieved excellence in academic effort, but whose marks preclude him/her from receiving any other academic award from Bellerose Composite High School.

Joan Trettler was a teacher, administrator, school trustee and board chair in St. Albert Public Schools for 44 years. She was also an active volunteer and leader in the community of St. Albert. 

This scholarship is given to a graduating student, who is considered to be a well-rounded, community-minded individual who exhibits outstanding leadership in student activities.

The Joe May Poetry Award of Excellence is granted to one grade 10 student from Bellerose High School who has shown proficient skill in the creation and public presentation of poetry. 

This memorial award from the St. Albert Cosmopolitan Club is designed for a student who has shown outstanding writing and leadership skills in the poetry community.

The Kinsmen Club of St. Albert Service Award is awarded every year to four students, one from each high school, who are enrolled in a post-secondary institution. The competition is designed to recognize students who have demonstrated a commitment to their school and/or their community through service-oriented volunteerism.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 271 offers bursaries for students who are children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of any of the person identified under section 401 of the Poppy Manual, and who have completed Grade 12.

This $1000.00 scholarship is awarded to a student with a minimum of 65% overall average who is pursuing post-secondary education. The student must also demonstrate above-average community service, either in school or in the community.

Service Above Self Award Rotary Award will be awarded to up to 12 high school student(s) in St Albert who demonstrate community service.

This $1000 award is awarded to a student currently enrolled in or has successfully completed the Alberta Education Art 30 curriculum, who is applying for post-secondary studies in either of the fields of visual arts or architecture. Students may apply for this award. See the student center for an application.

This award is presented to the student who exemplifies the Lion’s motto, “We Serve,” who is caring and helpful in both the school and community. The prime criteria for this award is fulfilling the Lions’ motto “We Serve.” Volunteerism and service both at the school and the community are important aspects of this award. Academic performance will be considered but is not to be the main criteria.

Awarded to a student who is respected both by peers and staff, has improved their academic standing over the three years while attending Bellerose Composite High School, and is planning to attend a post-secondary institution (preferably in the fields of: psychiatry, psychiatric nursing, social work, chartered psychologist).

First established by Paul Garrick and Raye Sivertson, the two architects who designed Bellerose Composite High School, this award is presented to a Grade 12 student who has helped create a positive spirit and environment at BCHS through dedication and leadership in a variety of school activities.
